When Giles Sutehall stood up to give his Web Analytics seminar at the EMetrics summit here in London today, I have to apologise that I really wasn’t expecting more than the corporate view of a Group Channels Manager in Communications and External Affairs. But what Giles told from heart was the challenge of building coherent digital strategies inside large organisations. You can see some Giles’ notes at the Emetrics site, and he did a cracking job of explaining the tensions and needs for the centralisation of web platforms within BP.
My favourite vignette? “I can remember a time when the BP Greece website was hosted on a desktop computer in Greece. When the cleaner came in at 6:30 she’d unplug the PC and plug in her vacuum cleaner.” …There’s a lot to be said for creating centralised resources.
I was rolling in the aisles, but can’t help remember that many of us have been there.
Aw shucks! I missed that one.
I did have the opportunity to watch several other good ones though.

Hi Dany,
I didn't attend that session, butthe story about BP Greece is excellent, it expresses so well the importance that some organisation give/gave to the Internet. I think I'm going to use it someday. ;-)
Hope you enjoyed the Emetrics.
Kind Regards,
René
