Venezuela: Internet set for take-off
At 1am tonight I’m on a plane to Caracas and twitchy with the excitement of visiting a new country. Researching the place over the last couple of weeks has been a fascinating journey: there’s a massive wealth from oil, horrid poverty, and a level of crime that makes my last week in Mexico feel much safer. The government closed down McDonalds last night - yes, the state has power. It’s certainly an edgy place for foreigners, but the rapid arrival of the internet, web media and international content is already changing knowledge and attitudes.
